Three Steps to Self Love
The most powerful way to change your thinking about yourself is to do the following three steps:
1. Look at yourself in a caring and compassionate way, not harshly. Treat yourself as you want others to treat you. Be kind to yourself rather than hard on yourself – even when you make mistakes or feel down and out. Affirm yourself and give yourself the same positive messages that you would give a good friend.
2. Look at your flaws objectively – without criticizing or judging them. Remind yourself that no one is perfect, that we all have our strengths as well as weaknesses, and in fact it’s when we combine both sides of ourselves (strength + weakness) that we are most complete and unique.
3. Change your negative thinking. Think of the reasons why you have self-esteem issues – it may be because you were criticized or rejected a lot in your past, so now you criticise yourself all the time. You may not love yourself because your life is full of problems, so you don’t see any good in yourself. But the point is – you CAN change this negative thinking about yourself. It’s only a matter of practice and time, but it’s definitely worth it. We all deserve to feel good about ourselves so we can have true self-esteem!
